BEHIND THE BATTLE OF THE RIVER
PLATE
Richard has made a particular study of this
battle, and has lectured widely, gathering
many anecdotes.
First of all, he will offer you a detailed,
illustrated presentation on the events of
the battle and the lives of those involved.
Then he will arrange a special excursion for
you telling the story behind the Battle of
the River Plate, and escorting you in a private
car or minibus to see the anchor, rangefinder
and guns of the German pocket battleship Graf
Spee.
You will see sites of interest such as the
former British and German Legations, the British
Residence (occupied by Mr. Eugen Millington-Drake)
and visit the Maritime Museum with many relics
of the battle, the cemeteries where German
and British sailors are buried, the Anglican
Church and monument to those who died, and
take a drive to the hilltop above Montevideo
where you will enjoy panoramic views of the
city and see the point where the Graf Spee
sank.
